A Healthy Perspective...

I wasn't always a "health nut"...nor did I ever aspire to be one. All I knew was there were many areas of my life that were not where I wanted them to be and I was constantly searching for a magic solution to bring them all into one happy place. I was feeling depressed, overwhelmed, and out of sorts. My emotions were struggling, my health was struggling, my marriage and relationships were struggling, everything was in an upheaval. I was experiencing complete discontent, and nothing was "right"....

Want to know more? Today I am guest posting over at Kitchen Stewardship so head on over to see how things turned out! I know, I know...it's been a bit since I have been in here...I have been busy seeing clients, scheduling workshops, writing workshops, and speaking at workshops! But there is a lot in the wings so keep checking back! AND...if you would like a chance to win a free health consultation, head over there and enter Katie's contest!!

Thanks for being part of this giveaway. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a holistic health counselor.

I don’t know a ton about all the different models of water filters out there today. But common, less expensive ones, like Brita, usually do not filter out flouride. I love the water from the Nikken Pimag filters. It is a pricier model…about $300. But in my opinion worth the investment. It has a fabulus taste! I learned of it from a friend of mine who has one and it is on my list of very near future purchases!

I recently was told about a hypothalamous cleansing protocol that was guaranteed to help you lose a ton of weight really quickly. It was called rejuvenation. It was available for the low low cost of $499. sarcasm intended. Is there such a thing as doing this and what are your thoughts on it?

It seems like there is so much conflicting advice on nutrition out there, even among the whole / real food crowd. What do you recommend for servings of whole grains and fruits on a daily basis?

Thanks,

Michelle

Susan b...I would recommend always to shy away from anything that says you can lose weight quickly and it's good for you. And especially anything you have to purchase. Losing weight fast is not a good solution. It doesn't give your body time to adjust, it doesn't teach you proper eating habits, and it rarely ends up being a permanent solution. Losing weight in a healthy fashion is a process. Weight is not gained overnight, so it can't be rid of overnight. Slow and steady has been proven over and over to yield the most successful results in weight loss, learning to form new routines and habits successfully, and to keep the weight off.

Michelle T...as far as whole grains go, there are many, many health benefits and they are an excellent source of nutrition, as they contain essential enzymes, iron, dietary fiber, vitamin E and B-complex vitamins. Because the body absorbs grains slowly, they provide sustained and high-quality energy.

I don't recommend a serving suggestion. Everyone is different. Some people may need more grains than others to feel healthy. Others may not be able to digest them at all. Experiment with portion sizes and frequency of eating whole grains on your own and note how it makes you feel. You are your best gauge as to whether you are eating too much or too little!

Michelle T...same advice goes for fruits too!
